Highlights of Bushenyi High Court Pre-Session, RCC Meetings
The year has started on a high note for Bushenyi High Court. On Monday January 8, 2024, the Court kicked off a High Court criminal session presided over by the Resident Judge, Hon. Justice Amos Kwizera.
The Session will see40 cases handled in 40 days. At least 21 of the files to be handled are Murder cases.
The Judge held a Regional Chain-linked Committee meeting with stakeholders including Chairpersons and Resident District Commissioners from Sheema, Mitooma, Rubirizi, Buhweju and Bushenyi.
During the meeting, Hon. Justice Kwizera was concerned with the number of youths involved in crime attributing this to poverty. He urged leaders to mobilize the youth into moneymaking activities so that they don't get time for committing offences.
The Bushenyi District Chairperson, Mr. Jafari Basajjabalaba appealed to Government to increase funding to Police investigations to facilitate the smooth and speedy running of court processes. He noted that poor facilitation has remained a challenge in accessing justice by the residents.
The activities were the first of a kind for the newly operationalised High Court circuit.
The meetings were coordinated by the court's Deputy Registrar HW Goretti Arinaitwe.
